Their were many important people in the civil war. Most of the military leaders were trained during the Mexican war that only happened a while before the Civil War. One of them was Ulysses S. Grant. Grant was the chosen general of the Union (U.S.), he led the Union army into battle in most important fights. The Confederacy counterpart of Ulysses S. Grant was Robert E. Lee. Robert led the Confederacy army into most major battles.
At the time of the Civil War Abraham Lincoln was president of the union. He was the commander-and-chief of the Union army's, and helped devise strategies to win. The President of the Confederacy was Jefferson Davis, who not only had to deal with fighting the war, but also had to establish his new country.
After the Civil War, when the union won, Abraham Lincoln was watching a play. That day, he was assassinated. Police later found John Wilkes Booth, and he was convicted of the crime of assassinating Lincoln.
